The Kaleidoscope Project — Minnesota

The Kaleidoscope Project (Minnesota) is an initiative of RUMINATION GARDEN that uses public imagination labs and cultural advocacy projects to promote empathy, intercultural learning, and social change through the arts.

TKP focuses on two primary strategies:

  • Public Imagination Labs: Creative workshops informed by design thinking, centering collaboration with impacted communities.
  • Cultural Advocacy Projects: Artistic collaborations with social impact organizations that uplift voices and stories from the margins.

Past TKP labs and projects have:

  • Promoted solidarity and cultural exchange among BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other historically marginalized groups.
  • Facilitated dialogue around issues of race, gender, and cultural identity.
  • Built platforms where the arts are recognized as essential resources for equity, community healing, and personal transformation.

In 2020, in partnership with East Side Freedom Library, TKP brought sixteen writers together to participate in public imagination labs. These labs explored the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, anti-Asian violence, and cultural loss in Black and Indigenous communities. Resulting creative works were broadcast on Twin Cities Public Television and served as powerful community testimonies.
